24 Hours in Derry
Derry is unquestionably one of the most unique and wonderful cities across Ireland. Derry is the only remaining walled city in Ireland, and one of the finest examples across Europe. This amazing city is steeped in history and heritage, with plenty of cultural attractions to be seen and lots of delicious food and drink to be tasted.
Ideally, you would love a couple of days to really explore the city and get to know it in your own time. However, if you only have 1 day to do so don’t be alarmed! We have put together a packed itinerary ensuring you get to experience as much as possible during your 24-hours in Derry.

Take in the History of Derry’s many Museums
Any trip to Derry is not complete without exploring the many historic museums that the city has to offer. Before heading home definitely take some time to have a look around.
The Tower museum should be near the top of many lists for places to visit in Derry. The museum focuses on the history of Derry as well as being the home of many artefacts from the Armada shipwreck. The museum also boasts an open-air viewing facility, which offers excellent panoramic views of the whole city.
Another unmissable trip is a visit to the Museum of Free Derry, just a 7-minute walk from the hotel. The museums exhibits offer a moving insight into The Troubles and also the Free Derry Irish nationalist movement in the early 1970’s.

Walking Tour of the city
If you do anything during your visit to Londonderry make sure it’s a walking tour. There is no better way to discover the history behind the attractions of this fascinating walled city.
Derry Guided Tours offer a great range of tours for all interests. The Bogside tour is a highly interesting tour offering an illustrated guide to the Troubles in Northern Ireland. Key events in Derry’s politically-charged history is covered, including Battle of the Bogside, the 1981 hunger strikes and more.
If you prefer something a bit more light-hearted, Derry Guided Tours also offer a Derry Girls tour which takes in all of the locations of the famous Channel 4 TV show.

The Craft Village is also a firm favourite amongst locals, boasting a traditional and quirky shopping experience, and only a short walk from the hotel.

Beer Masterclass and Dinner in the Walled City Brewery
The Walled City Brewery, is located just a 14-minute walk from the hotel across the River Lee, on Erbington Square. This is an excellent opportunity to walk across the famous Peace Bridge and take some photos of the stunning Donegal Mountains which can be seen in the distance.
The Walled City Brewery is one of Ireland’s best breweries, and is home to a multi-award-winning restaurant and brewhouse. Their goal is to provide visitors with a “Taste of the North West” through crafting local, authentic, premium quality, flavoursome beer and food.
Take part in the Beer Masterclass, a 1.5-hour interactive experience where you will learn the 9000-year history of brewing while also tasting all 10 of the Walled City’s craft beers.
This truly is an amazing spot, and a great way to kick your evening off.

Enjoy the nightlife of Derry
Lucky for you, Derry is the home of many exceptional pubs and bars, all in close proximity to the hotel.
The Craft Village is a nice place for some after dinner drinks. While, Peader O’Donnell’s is amongst the top bars in the city. It’s an excellent venue, with a great atmosphere and live music. Granny Annie’s and Mason’s Bar are also other great spots worth visiting.
If the days excursions have taken their toll on you, you can always head back to the hotel for a nightcap in our Lyrical Bar, before going off for a well-earned night’s sleep.
Where should I visit after my trip to Derry?
Why not extend your trip by visiting the fabulous Belfast City? The city can be reached from Derry in 1 hour and 30 minutes and is home to two perfectly located Maldron Hotels, Maldron Hotel Belfast City and Maldron Hotel Belfast International Airport.
There is plenty to see and do in Belfast with the city being home to many historic landmarks, shopping areas and must-see attractions. Landmarks include Belfast City Hall and Grand Opera House, while attractions such as Titanic Belfast and Cathedral Quarter should be high on everyone’s list. Victoria Square and CastleCourt are amongst the most popular shopping areas for locals.
